Recreational Flyers

Take the TRUST Safety Test

The FAA requires recreational drone pilots to pass TRUST (The Recreational UAS Safety Test) before they fly. It covers the basics of safe operation and the rules that apply to hobby flights.

Quick facts (so you know what to expect)

  • It’s free and completed online through an FAA-approved test provider
  • You can correct missed answers before receiving your completion certificate
  • After completion, download/save/print your certificate and keep it with you when you fly
  • If you lose your certificate, you’ll need to re-take TRUST

Why TRUST is required

Recreational flyers are required to pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test and keep proof of completion available if requested by the FAA or law enforcement. TRUST was created to meet this requirement.

Tip: If your drone weighs more than 0.55 lb (250g), you’ll also need FAA registration through DroneZone.
